
The National Postal Museum houses six major galleries, including a changing exhibit gallery. Binding the Nation is devoted to the early history of mail service begining in per-Revolutionary America and continuing through the Civil War; Customers and Communities examines the evolution of mail delivery to vastly expanding urban and rural populations in the 20th century; Moving the Mail traces the growth of transportation and technology, and features airmail planes, a railway mail car and a Concord-style stage coach; The art of Cards and Letters spotlights the compelling role as a source of poersonal communication; and Stamps and Sories celebrates the beauty and lore of stamps and showcases rare stamps and covers from the museum's renowned collection.
In addition to its collections, the museum houses an educational Discovery Center, and a Library Research Center, which is among the largest philatelic and postal history research facilities containing more than 40,000 volumes and manuscripts.
